Woman calls the police after being wolf-whistled at by builders

A woman has called the police claiming she was being sexually harassed by builders wolf-whistling at her.

Poppy Smart, 23, says she was walking to work in Worcester today when she passed a construction site, at which point she claims the men working their shouted disrespectful comments at her.

Claiming that wolf-whistling and heckling from men is a daily occurrence, she said it has turned walking to work an ‘awful experience’.

She said: ‘I’ve noticed this behaviour more and more around the city.

‘Men will lean out of their cars or vans and shout comments about my appearance or whistle and I know and have seen this happen to others as well.

‘I think more women should speak out about this behaviour, maybe it will make people think twice.’

Poppy also compared the way men shout at her to ‘calling out at someone of a different race or religion’.

While the police are investigating the incident on the grounds that Poppy may have been subjected to harassment, the firm managing the construction site say they have CCTV footage proving it was not one of their workers.

A police spokesperson confirmed they had followed up Poppy’s complaint but had not taken further action.
